Stroke Prevention Clinics (SPCs) provide evidence-based, interdisciplinary care for individuals at high risk of stroke, streamlining risk factor management and timely access to diagnostic and preventive interventions.

IMPORTANT: Patients with stroke or TIA symptoms within the past 48 hours should be sent to the nearest emergency department for brain imaging.

Referral requirements
  • Patients with suspected stroke or TIA not yet assessed by a neurologist
  • Patients with concerning stroke risk factors
  • Referrals are accepted from medical doctors and nurse practitioners only
  • Quebec patients are accepted if referred by an ED physician or specialist
  • The Queensway Carleton Hospital SPC only accepts patients referred by their own emergency department.
